This resonates so much! I'm an artist in many different areas. My life is all about creating but in my younger years, I found myself getting bored and "burned out" with things I had been practicing for a while to improve myself. I got ideas of new things or to combine things but people kept telling me to stick with one thing!! It never worked for me. I learned that I am a person that are multitalented and my brain have a need to do different things to stay focused in what I'm doing. I know it would be stressful for some but it works for me. If I'm interested and excited about what I'm doing, I will automatically be focused and I will deliver my best. So I put things aside when I hit the wall and take it up again when the time is right. We all work different and I think it's very important to get to know yourself of what works for you and then do that no matter of what others say. We as artists use so much energy while we create and we transfer it to our pieces so I believe it's very important to learn how to charge ourselves to keep going and to not transfer exhaustion, stress and burned out feeling to our pieces and then to the homes they are going to. When I am "drained and low on energy" I can barely leave the couch, let alone focus on any of my responsibilities. When Jono is "drained and low on energy" he collaborates with others in the construction of two metal rectangles that he then constructs as light fixtures.

I made two major drawings last year and really wanted to do better this year. I had dreams alternating my artistic vision into 2 month intervals. The first month is composition planning, accruing materials and props, and setting my schedule. Month 2 would have been the execution phase of laying my final work down.
Financial troubles hit my home fairly hard this year, on top of my low online presence and only selling one print last year, it's difficult to genuinely envision myself as a successful artist. I've made it to the galleries, but financially every move I make is a risk. So I haven't met my goal of making at least 6 large pieces this year.

I hope I can look back on this time as a learning experience. I suppose I can still start and crack down on my at-home studio. Getting it organized seems like a great first step. And maybe some rectangle lights 🤔

This is so great. Practical and funny with it. When your love of creating is blunted, hone it on your environment or something. Fun fact (rectangle experts an/or lovers will know this): A square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square. Happy new studio, hope you will feel lighter in every way. 😘

Just the video I needed to see! I was completely drained yesterday. After a short nap, I took an old sweater and cut it up into something new and exciting. It was the kind of fun I needed to give me a boost of creativity to co tinue with my art. Thank you for another great video!

you apply so much detail into the skin ...you done people, have you ever thought of dinosaurs? Like the t-rex or the v raptor I think you would crush the art industry with big pieces like that.

Thank you once again Jono for sharing your artistic world with us so honestly. It's encouraging to know the struggles you face and how you manage to overcome them... makes me realise I'm not alone with the difficulties I face! When I'm feeling flat for inspiration I've always tried to do something in nature, go for a walk or cycle ride, take my mind somewhere else while exercising which always seems to work. I also have a log burner so often I'll go and chop some wood or do something in the garden. After watching your video though, I feel inspired to add another dimension to those moments when creativity may be in short supply.. I could also do with improving my lights so that's going on my list!! Thanks for sharing 👊

My drawing desk is next to my editing station and that’s next to my easel so I just rotate clockwise when things get stale

Hey Jono.. It's a rectangle but.. I have such bad lighting for my art. I live in a caravan and I use 2 types of lights.. normal table lamp (horrible) and an LED circle light which is the best I can do right now. But, after watching this I might just build a smaller version since I totally think its what's needed for my small space. Ty for posting.
