Under the Dubai sunshine, the Series got underway with a bang with big performances from the likes of Argentina and South Africa.

But elsewhere there were big headlines, with Spain securing two huge victories and Kenya making a triumphant return to the Series.

Hey World Rugby. The reason the crows are dwindling away is because you insist on playing the men’s and women’s tournament at the same time making it an impossibly long, drawn out and exhausting day to stay engaged. You will see this in Cape Town.

World Rugby has become a disgrace to the sport. The constant issues with refereeing, including criminal offenses during the Rugby World Cup that go completely unchecked without any real investigation, are infuriating for fans. On top of that, the corruption tied to South African corporate interests and the deep-seated influence of white Afrikaans elites only intensifies the frustration. But perhaps the most glaring problem is the abysmal promotion of the sport. Rugby unions and leagues seem to be controlled with an iron grip, limiting access to quality footage and effectively shutting out casual fans. This leaves only the hardcore supporters engaged, and it’s no surprise that the sport’s global appeal continues to suffer because of these failings.

Is it really reasonable to expect such a corrupt, insular Afrikaans-dominated system to resonate with diverse cultures around the world?
