Robert, your my hero! I had the same problem with the smoker as I could not keep it on and the fan would not come on. I switched the plugs and that fixed it! Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!

I have enjoyed your videos. I should have watched your videos first. I got this smoker as an early Christmas present two days ago and struggled with the wiring briefly. I found myself on my driveway in 40° weather at 1am cursing everything as I figured it out. Definitely subscribing to you now.

The fan cut off during process and did not come back on. The temperature was holding at 277 degrees. Is that normal?

Thank you for showing us how not to make mistakes. I benefited plenty from your videos and I got my MB 40 Digital Charcoal smoker

Call me a fool, but I ALWAYS have snickers assembled and an extra warranty to go with these. Because that way, I can send it back with no problems. Most companies don't even try to make instructions on anything simple. Great video. Thanks.

Just wanted to share something here, in case anyone else is running into the same issue I had.

When I first got my smoker, I could not for the life of me get it up to temp. I'm not talking about hitting 400 at the end of the preseasoning process, I couldn't even hit 275, despite using quite a bit more charcoal than supposedly needed, even with the partition removed.

Anyway, I'll spare y'all the details of the headaches and hair-tearing out I went through over several days. The important bit is this: the vent shaft under the unit (running from the fan into the box) has a soft plastic flap in it. When the fan isn't blowing, this is hanging down and blocking nearly the entire shaft. When the fan turns on, it pushes this flap back and allows air to reach the fire. For some reason, there are a couple screws in the shaft that sit directly in front of the flap. Somehow some way, my unit had the flap in front of the screws. So when the fan kicked on, the flap wasn't moving back much, it was nearly sealed off. Not much air could get to the fire, because the air from the fan was hitting that flap and bouncing off, making it feel like the fan was blowing the wrong way.

So if you have this smoker and cannot get it up to temperature, try taking your fan off (pretty easy with a screwdriver) and check to make sure that flap can move freely. I'm not sure why I'm seemingly the only person to have this issue, but it seems like something that could easily happen in shipping.

I so appreciate what you did with this video. If it was not for you, it would have been returned. Thank you so much.

I am getting an Error 4 message. I just got this built and need to season it. How many pieces of fire starter should I be using? I only used one and the fire was going for a few minutes and then an alarm sounded and ERR4. I am so new at this and absolutely clueless. I have subscribed to your channel and am so grateful for your help. 🙏

Hey hey and let me tell you how glad I am to have found you here on YouTube! I thought I was the only one in the nation to have bought this unit! Long story short I bought mine over three months ago and right away after assembling I knew there was a problem with the wire instructions. I changed them back and forth but couldn’t get the fan to operate. From experience with fan assisted controls I knew I was in trouble when either way I tried the wires it didn’t kick the fan on. After back and forth emails and frustration on my part I was finally able to talk to customer support who I will say was very helpful.it shouldn’t have taken three months but...
After listening to my problems as well as know Bluetooth connection it was decided by the QA Team to send me a whole new unit due to know controller in stock. If I may bend you ear a bit let me ask you several questions since your several steps ahead of me. Would love to see your out of the box instructions, got the first one together by myself after assembling at least twice in places! Lol 😂 and hoping you can show the correct wire connections. I really have to bite my lip on that one!
I bought this unit primarily to smoke summer sausage. It’s tall enough to hand and trays enough for several sleeves. I need it to step up from 120° to 160° in increments and thought this would be the perfect using a broken snake method. Have yo7 used yours enough to give a ballpark on goals to use for a Cook like this?
When everything is up and running well with the new unit exactly what can I expect the Bluetooth connection to do?
Again, thank so much for your break in video and look forward to seeing the assembly video as well.lord knows I need all the help I can get. I’m a stick burner guru who does a lot of cooks for parties, reunions and group cooks. I also use pellets smokers and and barrels as well as the stick burner in comps. Just thought I’d throw that in there to show what an idiot i am trying to figure this beast out!

What are your thoughts on pouring Lit coals from a chimney into the fire box?
Adding that to unlit coals and wood. Would that get it going faster?

Have you had any issues with meat tasting bitter or do you feel that rear vent has been sufficient?

I’m having trouble, I have everything installed ready to do my burn in. I tried a little test run to see if the fan would go on and just immediately shuts down. No error 1 like someone mentioned earlier (actually did happen when I first started it but went away) just shuts off. Is there any chance that I have to have my charcoal going before it wants to turn the fan on, ? I would hate to try it tomorrow with the charcoal burning and the same thing happen

Robert have you loaded this unit up with pork butts yet? I’m going to have outside temperatures of 55°ish Tuesday and I have twenty huge chicken quarters and 4/10# butts to cook. I’d like to cook all the legs and at least two of the butts in it. As.I’m thinking about what a want to ask I realize there’s no way I’ll have room. Looks like the butts go on the Rectec early thirty that morning and concentrate on the quarters. So my question is do you think I’ll need to rotate the racks? I hate doing that due to heat loss, guessing its a necessary evil? I’ll learn a lot of this as I go but want to pick your head as much as possible on somethings.
One thing that has me scratching my head is that grease pan. I’m guessing a modified aluminum pan might catch most but not all?
