How to Remove Volvo 240 Starter

Removing the starter on a Volvo 240 can be a little difficult. In this video we show how we do it.

It's a lot easier in a Volvo 740 or 940 because there is a little more space to get at the top bolt, but in a 240 it's more difficult.

Hopefully this is a helpful quick tip for anyone attempting this or struggling with it.

Thanks for posting this. I am swapping starters from my 87 to my 92. The extraction is complete! Now I get to do it all over again tomorrow. I noticed you edited out the breaking bolts loose part. After doing it I can see why...

Great video. But what about getting it back in? Stacking wood blocks? Bailing wire in one bolt hole? A friend?

Holy cow, this is probably the best 240 video I've seen yet, Thanks for posting it! You wouldn't happen to remember what size socket you used for bolts, would you?

I’m really not enjoying this task. I’ve had worse, but this is a 6/10 in misery level. All because of the top bolt.

Every 240 starter that I have done I have just drilled a hole in the floor to access the top bolt and then tack welded a plate over the hole and then siliconed the edges
