Some schools still have rules about "gendered clothing", even here in the UK where they claim to be progressive. I know a few trans boys who've been forced to wear gym skirts, for example. 😔

I hated the way they enforced gym skirts when I was at school and I'm a cis woman (body image and trauma reasons for not wanting my legs exposed) so I can't even imagine how hard it is for kids dealing with dysphoria. I hope everyone reading this is well! 💖

My mom told me about that article when she was in grade school. But I thought it was an over exaggerated rule. I had no idea that they actually arrested people for breaking the law more than on occasion. I am shook 😮
That is horrible.

I’m femme and dress as such. This makes me want to go back in time and wear the top half of a Marlene Dietrich suit and a skirt, stockings and ballet flats below.

Do socks count as one item or two under such a stupid rule? 🤔

Me wearing genderless dress-casual pants, cardigan, and matching shirt: come at me

Everyone who reads this: trousers were distinctly ‘male’ during this time. Skirts were mandatory for AFAB just a generation ago, even deep in winter.

Saw this mentioned in the Stonewall Reader-- don't remember which excerpt, but someone mentioned drag queens wearing ""male"" socks and underwear to count for 2/3

That's so weird and arbitrary! History entertains me.

I thoroughly enjoy these shorts and think you do them well! It’s really hard for me to find educational videos within my attention span, but I’ve found a new liking to the way your shorts give a quick introduction to some queer history, and I can research further in my own time if it peaks my interest. Just wanted to say I love and appreciate how much effort you put into your channel and use your voice for advocacy. 🙏🌈

Half of my shirts are men's clothing, and I wear slacks/trousers the majority of the time .

I don’t even wear three articles of clothing sometimes.

The American Old West had gender clothing laws as well. Women dressing as men was considered a "disguise" and illegal. The Industrial Revolution created many factory jobs, higher paying at the time. Women dressed as men to earn a better wage for their family and some to hide their gender to avoid attention or sexual assault when alone. History can be strange and I enjoy your speaking on it. I learned something and will wear all kinds of clothes when I go out after the pandemic, just in case !

I wear a rather eccentric mix that I think would keep me safe.

Boston Ma also required gender assigned underwear. Butch women would wear boxers over their undies. In the 60's- just 50 years ago.
Other hacks were scarves, pearls, clip on earrings- things people could quickly wear or stash in the event of a raid.

The background music is a bit too distracting for me (is someone talking? Feels like a loud radio in the same room).

How exhausting to keep count of ‘correct’ gendered clothes.
