2:15 actually makes the most sense to me

I think the security guard answer was the best. BPM (beats per minute seem to be a highly defining measurement for differentiating EDM subgenres). After that, it seems to be more about what the dependency on bass is, amongst other obviously noticeable features.

For me, house is like: boots n cats n boots n cats

And techno is line: boots n boots n boots n boots

Also house sounds more 'warm'/soulful and groovy, while techno sounds more 'cold'like industrial and 'on-point'i guess

For me, House is like techno and I'd regard it as one of the grandfathers of techno... But House is more "soulful", and focused on rhythmic vibes with upbeat emotion and positive outlook. Very humanitarian, hopeful, with a dose of trance-like quality to it. It's like on walking on clouds.

It's like if the hippies from the 60s and 70s took Disco and Funk (which were the original roots & samples of House) and made it into an escapism drug, which really zoned in on the "being in the moment" in its core groove. House music, especially old school House (less so with newer corporatised House), is the vibe of spiritual freedom. I'm a dancer, and so if you look to House dance as a physical expression of the genre, then you can see is it can be a party vibe, but also free flowing, and has some feline Jazzy characteristic to it. Some styles of House have this quality more than others.

Techno I'd regard as taking from the "repetitive beats" of House, but is more about getting pumped and adrenaline fuelled. Like a tribe preparing for war. Techno dancers gravitate more toward shuffling, and to me it's much more intense, and less about flowing on a carefree vibe. The "soulfulness" is lost with techno, but it gains more intensity and harder thrill.

Techno = agressive, dark, more effects, deep basslines, 124-135 bpm
House = less agressive, lighter but not always deeper basslines, more melody, may include richer vocals 123-128 bpm
Deep House = even less agressive, deep but not agressive basslines, less melody, calmer atmosphere 110-125 bpm
Tech House = combination of techno and house
Minimal Techno = minimalistic techno vibes, less agressive, dark, less effects, deep but not agressive basslines, 125-132 bpm
Minimal House = minimalistic house vibes, similar to deep house but only with less effects, almost no melody, calmer atmosphere, 115-125 bpm

That's how I experience most of it. Ofcourse there are some exceptions and variations, but in general it's more or less like that.

house - drumkick, bass, melody, vocals, samples, turtables;
techno - bassdrum, heavy snares, reversed hi-hats, less melody, overlapping loops, vocals, rap, manipulated samples, reverbs and delayes, hypnotic chords, melodic percussions, high pitched sounds, wobble bass, 4/4 rhythm, 2 step rhythm, techno takes elements from 80's electro and house. techno is broader and more diverse, like a landscape, from inner city to jeff mills, from juan atkins to dan curtin.

The answers given here are terrible (except for the guy at 2:15)😂 I had to watch a video in Japanese to really understand the difference. This is what I learnt. Techno : from Detroit, where many people were surrounded by heavy machinery in the car factories they worked. So heavy bass beat, often repeated use of synthesizer, often fast, got a space-age edgy feeling. House : more melodic, often vocals, based on pop and disco music, easier to listen and dance to, 2nd and 4th beat often emphasised, wider range of chord progressions 😅

House has a drum, high hat, and a clap.
(Boots n cats)
Techno has a drum and high hat.
(Untz)
I like to pretend the clap at the end of a house beat symbolizes the people in the crowd vibing together. Take away the clap and you take the humans and the soul out of the bassline. Left with the gritty, industrial, anti-social robot beat. I like techno a bit more

unfortunately the gentlemen at 1:21 are exactly right lmao

It's the beat and little bit the BPM. House is typically 4/4 Beat. -> 4 on the floor. Techno doesn't have that pattern.

''what's the difference?''
video starts with a techno track.
that's not house.
