Mabe im reading too much into this, but its interesting that Diana laments that "nothings real" only to turn away and try to leave when her real child-Natalie-appears and instead reaches for Gabe-who isn't real- when he comes in.

The staring that happens during the final number is amazing. You see the hurt in the daughter seeing that her mother is seeing something not there.
