1978 Pacific Typhoon Season Animation

Показать описание
1978 in the Western Pacific was a fairly average season, but only featured one Category 5 - but it was a big one! Rita peaked at winds of 185mph and a pressure of 878mb, one of the lowest pressures ever recorded - and it held this enormous intensity for quite a long time. The East China Sea saw more storms than average enter the area, most as a typhoon.

Typhoon Atang (Olive) was also a devastating storm in the Philippines and was the first A named storm to be the retired, though he name Olive was not retired along with it. It is the only A named storm to be retired on the Philippines until Ambo (Vongfong) of last year

1978, one of the craziest years officially by depression count, and featured Rita, one of the most intense TC’s in history.

I thought this was 1979 for a second and got really exited. Still, I am exited for one of the many category 5 Ritas

Rita is very underestimated, it had great environmental conditions. Considering the recon gaps, and found pressures below 880mbar on all of them, it’s safe to say that this reached over 200mph

Atlantic beasts like Irma, Wilma, Rita, and Sally were all WPAC beasts way back to the year of anglicized names over the basin until year 2000.

Super Typhoon Rita (Kading) is the strongest storm of the season. It is also the wettest tropical cyclone in the PH history with over 400 mm of rain.

Typhoon rita strikes again after looping around as a fluctuating category 2 typhoon back in 1972

Rita reminds me of Mangkhut because it stayed as a Category 5 for a very long time and also hit The Philippines.

Fun Fact: Rita also affected Hong Kong with gale-force wind, but HKO denied signal 8.
