This is absolutely ridiculous. Eric is the reason I became a professional guitar player in the late 80's. I had the honor of opening a few shows for him during my career. This song took me a lifetime to learn. You make it look effortless. I'm speechless at how incredible you are.

This guy deserves 10x the credit for just this song alone

Few notes about the video :)

I'm mainly going by Johnson's hand positioning from the "Eric Johnson Live from Austin Texas" video posted on YouTube. That was the performance on December 18th 1988. Of course, there are parts from the studio take that he doesn't play again (but he always improvises something equally amazing) so I listened very closely and took my best educated guess and did what felt comfortable for me personally.

For Bars 23 - 29, I observed from the Austin Texas performance that he picks the whole part. But in other performances, he hybrid picks that. I was more comfortable with the picking. If you are feeling the hybrid, go for it!

Perhaps the hardest piece on the page for me personally! It took me a month while I was balancing other projects and I kind of recorded it all in sections.

Enjoy!

I've been listening to this song since middle school when it came out on Guitar Hero 3. That game eventually inspired me to pick up the guitar and excel at it. After 15 years of playing, I get told by some of my band mates and friends that my skills are so good it makes them consider quitting (jokingly of course) as we all feel as musicians when someone plays like an absolute boss and it seems unattainable. When they tell me things like that, I give examples like this... talk about making ME wanna trash it for the day. The finesse, speed and accuracy of this level of playing is my personal next level. Thank you for inspiring me to reach it, friend! To anyone who reads this feeling the same intimidation, keep practicing and loving the instrument and it WILL pay off!

I’ve decided it was easier for me to learn brain surgery than it is to learn this song, but you make it look easy! Awesome!

As someone whos been playing for 11 years now, i've seen every kind of guitar lesson on YT and these are hands down the best. I can play along at a faster pace and just pause and rewind instead of a slow walkthrough, which btw isn't bad at all but I am way passed that and this makes it so much better for me. keep it up friend

That was freakin’ phenomenal. I was thinking to myself “that seems like the hardest song to play of all of these” and looks like I was right!

This is absolutely fantastic! Not only was the playing and transcription on the money but the tone is exact! Extremely difficult on all counts and extremely well done. Incredible job, man! \m/

This is one of the cleanest renditions of Cliffs of Dover that I have ever heard. Great job.

This is bucket list stuff. I read the tab, I follow along visually, I pick up the guitar and go WTF!! then HOW TF. Then I see you doing it. and I think WTF and HTF! I'm a good guitar player, I know I am. but this is a labour of love to us mortals and I've seen a few folk do it, but not many. One day y'know I WILL be able to play this. Thank you for your transciption and demonstration. You are priceless.

Wow! Just wow! This is one of my favourite 'Oh my God, I'll never be able to play that' tracks and you just SLAYED it. Everything about that was spot on, the tone, the articulation, the feel. Truly excellent playing of a ridiculously challenging piece. You may have inspired me to give this another go
