Word Problem: System of Linear Equations, 3 Unknowns, 3 Variables using ELIMINATION

In this example we have three linear equations with three unknowns that we must solve for. Here, three people buy pastels, brushes, and canvases for $22, $23, $24 respectively. How much is each item?
To solve we set up a system of 3 linear equations and use ELIMINATION to solve the system. Note that there are certainly other methods we could use to solve the system.

Don't ever think that you are doing something wrong with these tutorials! I am currently taking Calculus. My class meets twice a week for 3 hours per day, so in that 6 hours per week, the teacher has to basically cram an entire chapter of calculus in. She tries her best to go slow for people that just don't get it, but she really can't. Your tutorials slow down the teachings, we can stop them, rewind, and watch them again if necessary. You take the time that my teacher cannot afford. Thank you!

yes, this way is long winded i think for these systems. but the notion of substitution is often used in non-linear systems, so this is as good a place as any to show it :)

i really appreciate the kind comment. i personally think the education system ( in the usa at least) is messed up. and i do not really think i am helping that much honestly. i help people pass classes, but i feel like i am ' aiding and abetting ' by really just regurgitating the same stuff. but, i feel like that is what is required at the moment. any who, sorry to wax philosophical. and thanks again :)

you see systems of equations in linear algebra, so sure it would be. however, one would also run across this stuff in a typical high school algebra class as well.

You need to teach a lot of the professors in various universities how to teach because I learned more watching your videos then I did in any of my math classes and I am suppose to be going to a top university in my state. well, i have videos solving these using: matrices (Gauss Jordan), inverses, substitution, elimination, cramer's rule so i feel like i should have most of the bases covered now.

I actually agree with that here in the usa the education is so spotty its crazy not everyone learns the same information during k-12 and once at the university level your told you should have learned it in high school. Its pretty had to find a professor that explains step by step I only had one professor do that but the department did not like him much they liked another professor who had a 90% fail rate and taught the business calculus funny college has now become more about money these days.

you can also transpose the equations into a matrix form and solve it.
