Damn, this is the best honest review i've seen on an overrated piece of work by Robert Greene. Every single criticism by Kaal is 100% true, so please don't make this book your bible on gaining power because it will do you more harm than good. It'd be nice if Kaal can write a PDF on all the bad terrible advice in this book and why people should stray away from such guidance (sort of like an Anti-Robert-Greene manual). ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿค™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฅ‚

This book is helpful itโ€™s given me a better understanding of how people have used shady methods to screw me over in the past.

Well, I mean even the book acknowledges that most of the laws aren't absolute and gives advice on when it's most appropriate to transgress the laws.

"beware of people thqt act or say they are not in the game of power"

those are the biggest adepts of power.

You are the living example of a guy where you can see the hard work behind his self-development, only by listening to you. Keep it up brother.

I think if you reframe these laws and word it differently, understand it differently. You can pull out important knowledge. For example "let other do the work and take the credit". The opposite here is also true, be wary of people who will steal your work (happened to me). "Dont trust your friends too much". This means that you should be wary and think before you put complete trust in your friends. Look at their past, their behavior, then if you're sure they're good, you trust them completely.

Came here looking for others who were a little sickened by Greene's approach to life, and I was not disappointed.

Robert Greene made this clear in several videos. The 48 Laws of Power is a book that you need when dealing with toxic people who use these laws against you. If youโ€™re not aware of these laws, youโ€™re at the mercy of those who use it.

Itโ€™s not for people to follow and treat like the gospel. Some laws are to be aware of but not used, and some laws are useful to apply.

Robert isnโ€™t toxic or manipulative. Heโ€™s someone whoโ€™s done deep research and read hundreds of books to write each one of his books to make them as valuable as possible.

I would love to see you review his other books like the 50th Law, Mastery, The Laws of Human Nature, or the Art of Seduction, hopefully thatโ€™ll change your opinion of him.

I've read this book due to a recommendation and I have to say this book made me feel uncomfortable while reading. But I still think there are benefits after reading this book. Stay with me. I have meet people like this and it is irritating at least to say. What help was to understand others motivation and understand why certain people act the way they do.

Cheers

The laws you mentioned actually are a warning to the reader that other people may do this to the reader. The laws are not only to implement some are for you to notice in other people

The book is an interesting window into the psychology of the author.

I think a lot of the "Laws" mentioned in the book are only somewhat relatable when you are in the position of great "power" (hence the name of the book) or at least when you're trying to climb a ladder to a very high power position in the society. A lot of average folks (not using average in a bad or condescending way here) who have normal aspirations won't find this book too useful. However, when the stakes are high and people are battling for the very top positions of power, it's a very bloody and brutal game up there and it's hard to survive at those levels if you haven't got your ends secure and aren't extremely strategic in dealing and leading people. There are times when you've got to play offense to be able to keep enemy at bay, avoid betrayal, and maintain your power. Also, a lot of these "laws" are indeed a reflection of the majority of our society, so it's good to be aware of them so you avoid getting taken advantage of and trampled by those abusing their power.

Though I agree that a lot of the chapters aren't named very appropriately and seem quite manipulative, but if worded right, those things are pretty important to learn for someone who is in that kind of position in society (or aspiring to be at one).

Personally, I think, his best book in terms of attaining power/Survive under a power dynamics is actually the "The laws of human nature". It's a very big read, however, here, he has been quite frank about many of the limitations of the strategies he is suggesting to apply, on top of that, he suggests different strategies when dealing with people who have more power over you.
48 Laws of power felt like a book for Teenagers or college-goers to, in reality, Fantasize about their future and how they are gonna rule the world. Whereas LOHN on the other hand actually deals with a lot more issues in real life, where you are considered to be the underdog and still make it either to higher levels or at least deal with toxic people in your current level. Many of his suggestions are to actually simply "Get out" of that particular company/job position/Relationship to save yourself, just with a more detailed guideline as to how to go about it. Again, even this book has many issues and bad parts, and has a strong Pessimistic/Everyone is trying to bring you down type of vibe (which is true in some cases and false in some cases, life isn't so black and white), but for the most part, it felt like a more mature read.
Anyway, I really liked this video. In all honestly, 48 laws of power is very, very overhyped. It has it's moments and have value in some frontier, but overall I would say it's not something you should use in your life blindly. It felt like a book that was written to sell it to people who are very insecure about themselves, thinking they don't have enough power (or rather agency tbh), depressed and kinda hungry/seeking for power, and in that department the book hit its mark as it sold millions.

Control is the opposite of letting go.
Control is of the devil, letting go is godly.
That's why meditation gives so much peace and clarity, because you are letting go and thus getting closer to god.

Taking this book literally can and will cause you pain. However.. This book is VERY useful for agreeable/kind hearted people. It is necessary to know that out in the world - these are the kinds of games which the narcissists and manipulators are willing to play with you.

I have known these dark rules instinctively since I was a young boy. Throughout my teenage life I have slowly realised these bad instincts and learnt how to avoid using them in order to maintain the peace. Only on very few occasions have I actually needed to use these instincts but when I have- it never ends well.

If you have worked in corporations all your life like I have, you will recognise the power plays demonstrated in the 48 rules of power then you will think this book is gold dust.

If you are a random you tuber reviewing a book with no life experience dealing with the trickiest malevolent people you can possibly imagine then you will think it is trash.
