The Detroit Tigers faced off against the San Diego Padres in a closely contested match at Petco Park in San Diego. Detroit looked strong early, scoring runs in the first, second, and third innings including a home run by Matt Vierling in the first. The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth inning with a two-run blast by Trey Sweeney. Despite holding a 5-0 advantage, the Padres responded with five runs of their own, highlighted by a three-run homer from Jackson Merrill in the fourth inning. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 10th, when Fernando Tatis Jr. singled to left, driving in the winning run for the Padres and sealing a 6-5 victory. Detroit starter Keider Montero allowed five runs over 4.1 innings, while Jason Foley took the loss in relief. Matt Vierling's two hits and a home run were notable efforts in a tough defeat for the Tigers, who now stand at 70-69 for the season.
