The Equal Justice Initiative just launched a new museum. Founder and Executive Director Bryan Stevenson stopped by “Start Your Day” to talk about this new addition.

The Equal Justice Initiative created two different venues. The National Memorial, their newest six-acre site, is devoted to recognizing racial terror and lynching. There have been 6,000 people lynched in this country up until the 1950’s. African Americans were being tortured and killed, and most Americans know little about these crimes.

The demographic geography of America was shaped by that era of racial terror. 6 million Black citizens left the South, fleeing to Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles and Oakland. Most Black people were refugees in these new states. The goal of the National Memorial is to give people some type of understanding of this racial terror.

The Legacy Museum explains the historical significance of slavery. The museum goes from slavery to lynching to segregation, and finally to mass incarceration.

All this and more on “Start Your Day.”

Thanks for the museum. After The virus I wish all museums would offer virtual tours. I would definitely pay to see that.

Who is doing the writing? Communication is a key to success. These two hosts don't have good speaking skills. Why do they drag their words? Brian is the only one who speaks clearly.
