I personally read this as a psychic battle in which the following occurs:
1. David, not wanting to harm Oliver, establishes a defensive perimeter.
2. Oliver pushes the offensive.
3. David maintains only defensive action.
4. Lenny joins the fight.
5. Outnumbered and overpowered, David is forced to take more aggressive, offensive action.
6. All parties go for broke at the climax of the fight and outcome of battle is left unknown.

For anyone who's unaware, this is a psychic battle being represented via a dance battle. The end where the lights overwhelm everything is David unleashing his latent power which eclipses both Shadow King and Oliver.

I love the subtle similarities between the 1st episodes of both season 1 and 2 both have a group choreographed dance scene and in both once when David is freed he instantly wants waffles

OK. The first time I watched the premier I was confused but after watching again I think I got it, this is basically a psychic battle between the three of them right? Oliver and Lenny vs David. It's just being represented with dance because telepathic battles are about perception and mental attack. They are supposed to be surreal and mind bending. Right?
