Today I am in Malaysia, just for one day, searching for the perfect fried chicken and curry. I flew into Penang at 10 o’clock in the morning and I flew out again at 5 PM. in the time I was there, I found this fantastic restaurant about 20 minutes away from the airport.

I don't know if someone's already mentioned this, but when the guy at the restaurant said "Water?" He was actually asking what drink would you like to order. In a Malay restaurant like this, maybe next time, you can order "Sirap bandung" (rose flavoured milk drink) or "Teh O ais limau" (iced lime tea) - both great for a hot day. Enjoy!

This local buffet style we called "nasi campur". Take a plate with rice, pick your dishes, pay at the counter 👌.
Ayam= chicken
Daging= meat
Kambing= lamb/goat

If you re going to Penang for curry you're expected to get Nasi Kandar .. You're lucky to found a good restaurant randomly in nowhere

You can take a bit of the sauces, they are not going to charge extra. They count by the pieces of chicken you take haha... this way you'll know which sauce you like.
The 1st chiken you took is "Ayam Masak Merah" which if directly translations "Chicken Cooked Red", usually is a bit more on spicer side.

If you want to make a comparison, it is fairer to compare bangkok with Kuala Lumpur. Both are big cities. you will be surprised to see how well developed malaysia is.

The barbequed chicken is usually eaten with specially made sauce then only it will taste better.

That's proper working class food. I used to eat stuff like this for lunch daily (though obviously if you're eating this daily you'd just take one chicken, but yeah, sometimes I also get an extra piece of fried chicken). Most working people eat out for lunch because it's affordable enough that it does not make much sense to cook. There's so much choice in just the type of curry that you don't get bored.
