1. Ideas of development:- before independence, India had before it, two modern development:-the liberal- capitalist model(Europe and the US) and the socialist model(USSR).

2. planning:-
A- planning for development was the most obvious choice for the country after independence.
B- soon after India became independent the planning commission came into being: the prime minister was its chairperson.

3. The early initiatives:-
A- (a five year plan has the advantage of pursuing the government to focus on the large picture and price long-term intervention in the economy)
1st five year plan in 1951.
2nd five year plan in 1956.
3rd five year plan in 1961.
4th five year plan in 1966.
B- the first five year plan was from
1951 to 1956
Sought to get the country's economy out of the cycle of poverty.
It addressed the agrarian sector including investment in dams and irrigation.
One of the basic aims was to raise the level of national income.
C- the second five year plan
The second fyp stressed out on heavy industries.
The government imposed substantial tariffs on imports in order to protect domestic industries.
India has to spend precautions foreign exchange to buy technology from the global market.

4. major outcomes:-
A- foundation- an assessment of the outcome of this early phase of planned development must began by acknowledging the fact that in this period the foundation of India's future economic growth was laid.
B- the most significant and successful was the abolition system of zamindars.
C- the period from 1967 onwards witnessed many new restrictions on private industries.

5. National development council:-
A- the national development council (NDC) or rastriya vikas parishad is the apex body for decision creating and deliberations on development matters in india, presided over by tge prime minister.
B- the council comprises the prime minister, the union cabinet ministers, chief ministers of the Union territories and the members of the NITI aayog (erstwhile planning commission).

6.NITI aayog :-
A- niti aayog is additionally creating itself as a state of the art resource centre with the essential resources knowledge and skills that will empower it to act with speed, advance research and innovation, bestow crucial policy vision to the government and manage unforeseen issues.
B- the reason for setting up the niti aayog is that people had expectations for growth and development in the administration thought their participation.this required institutional changes in administration and active strategy shifts that could seed and foster substantial change.
