1992 Mercedes 190 w201 E-MOBIL Rügen - experimental electric car

Mercedes-Benz 190 (W 201) model, the experimental vehicle with electric drive and nickel-cadmium battery in the large-scale test on the island of Rügen, 1992 to 1996. At the Geneva Motor Show in 1991, Mercedes unveiled its “Elektro” 190e, which boasted two 26 horsepower electric motors, banks of sodium-nickel chloride batteries, and about 68 miles of driving range. In 1992, Mercedes joined BMW and other automakers in a four-year electric vehicle experiment on the island of Rügen, which saw Mercedes test the performance of 20 vehicles with varying setups. Seven 190e models are have sported an asynchronous engine layout, in which no transmission was needed, while three cars featured a variant setup with nickel-cadmium batteries, a manual transmission, and a 25-mile driving range.

Now if electric cars looked like this. I wouldn't have a rpoblem with them.
I own a 190e and I keep thinking that if they ever ban gasoline engines, I would convert it so I can keep it.
But I'd still like to leave the transmission in place, because I like the effl of the automatic gearbox, and would still like to have a park gear which actually locks the transmission.

Wheeler Dealers have an experiment of replacing an Electrical 1985 Maserati Biturbo drive train with a more modern 2010+. The difference is huge. Its amazing how technology has matured.
