The legendary PS3 Toolset has been updated, now officially supporting firmware 4.89 and having many more under-the-hood tweaks to improve the experience further for anyone using it. We also take a bit of a look at PicoBoot, a brand new development for the GameCube using the Raspberry Pi Pico, as I share my own experiences installing and using it. We even get political this episode, discussing Japan's task force dedicated towards video game preservation! TheFloW open sources his own bd-jb implementation, Apollo Save Tool gets a port on the Vita, and even the PS1 gets some love with Stealth Unlocker!

I made sure to donate to the cause for the PS3 Toolset. I finally got my PS3 done and sent some money as a thank you for his hard work. I'll be doing it again when I modify my other PS3 as well. I know it's a free service, but in using the services, I feel it's only right to send some money their way

Memory Card is the embodiment of authenticity of gaming! Well done for another entertaining and hot topics in the console modding scene!

I watched a YouTube video installing the pico in the bottom of the gamecube and attached to the plastic clip. So it's great to know you can place it in different ways. Can't wait to do this mod.

Thanks for another great episode. I have a couple of 'PicoMemcard' Memory Cards coming from Italy for the PS1, cannot wait to play around with it.

The Picoboot being installed in a Panasonic Q would be interesting to see it work 🙂

Definitely gonna try out modding my GameCube with a Raspberry Pi Pico one of these days. Looks pretty straight forward and cheaper than the other ways people used to mod GameCubes.

I've always liked having the memory card option, as it was easier to carry my data to a friend's house to continue playing. On the other hand, I definitely preferred the choice to store on the memory card (Xbox / Xbox 360 / PS3) instead of being required to do so.

I don't miss memory card's, but 100% still feel nostalgic towards them. Nothing like the feeling of sliding in a yellow and black card into the ps2

I remember when I lost my Final Fantasy Tactics save on my PlayStation Slim, I had a third party memory card that was green, I was on the final battle of the game. Haven't replayed the game again since, at least up until that point.

I remember being all excited playing with my new PS1 on Christmas, just to find out mid game that I couldn't just save my progress like on the SNES, and needed a memory card

I recently bought a 16MBs after market Memory Card for my PS2; I was considering an original Sony one, but they're only 8MBs, which for PS2, really *isn't* enough!

I would like to re-hack my CFW PS3, because PS2 emulation isn't working anymore, and I suspect there's something awry on the flash filesystem that's preventing it, so it's good there's an update to the toolset!

It amuses me that there's a disc based jailbreak in the works for current PlayStations! If anything comes out from this BD-JB, we could be possibly looking to a full circle comeback to the disc swap era for playing, uh, "backup" games XD. And also this stealth unlocker for PS1, which makes it really full circle!

The Apollo Save Tool is also not working right on my PS3, maybe because of the thing I mentioned, but it's a nice tool overall; helped me unlock and backup my Souls game saves, so it's great it's coming to Vita!

Not picking up a GCN here in Brazil anytime soon, given how absurdly high prices got. Maybe because it wasn't so easy to hack, they were as cheap as Nintendo Wiis, like, 6 years ago, but with all those new ways of putting games on them, well, they're just that more valuable (same goes for PS2, in a way).

Ken Akamatsu's Love Hina was the first manga I read from start to finish. Not my favorite manga artist, but I applaud his efforts at preservation, not just for games, as it seems he does it for manga and anime as well!

I'll never forget the first time me and my brother played our GameCube, got really far in the game just to realize the memory card we bought used was full

Memory Cards done in the way as they were on the ps2 or gc are ideal. But if it's implemented in the same way as it was on the

Yeah, 15 blocks on PS1 memory cards are never enough for me. I don't have a GameCube yet for PicoBoot but, I think my first raspico thing I'll do is PicoMemcard. Convenient than setting up a PS2 for backing up cutscenes I tend to save of a funny PS1 game here and there. Also retro memory cards are cool!

The GameShark you showed doesn't have a parallel port connection on the back. Rather, it connects to the Comms Link, an ISA card for the PC.

Memory cards are nostalgia, cursing that it was full and could not save RE2 and only saw one ending. Later i got a 'switchable' memcard (blue one) where you can switch banks with. Even have a Xbox 360 memcard here laying around.

I've been trying to buy up dead gamecubes and get them working somehow. Already bulk purchased the pico chips. Should be able to get a bunch of dead cubes up and running for cheap for other folks can enjoy the cube.

Got excited seeing another PS1 softmod until I saw no way to use it on my SCPH-39001 Fat PS2, which I prefer over using a PS1 since the PS2 supports component. Guessing Tonyhax is still the only exploit to play out of region / burned PS1 games on the SCPH-39001 Fat PS2? Wish I could just put an exploit on a memory card and not have to swap.

Accessable doesn't always mean perfect smooth gameplay at bone cheap prices either. Preserve or protect copyright by publically funded lawyers? Lots of questions and not enough time. I believe some individuals have done a great job. Heck in a way, a pirate is preserving games. Maybe not the original bits and pieces though. It is still something to think about
