Mozart: Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Complete (K. 339)

One of the many sublime works by the titanic Mozart. The famous Laudate Dominum is part of this work. This work is, of course, fully appreciable, and fully appreciated, only by actual Catholics (and thus not by followers of Jorge Bergoglio, stage name “Pope Francis”). Many non-Catholics nevertheless insist that they can fully appreciate, and do indeed fully appreciate, this work, thereby shamelessly displaying their boundless arrogance and ignorance. Would they also claim the capacity to fully appreciate Buddhist works of art? Of course not. And they wouldn’t claim this of any other non-Catholic art, even though such art is infinitely inferior to the great Catholic works of art. Yet they claim the capacity to fully appreciate even the greatest Catholic artworks like this. Shameless, stupid modern heathens. Pitiful. Just pitiful.

Dixit 1:05
Confiteor 5:07
Beatus Vir 9:41
Laudate Pueri 14:28
Laudate Dominum 18:12
Magnificat 22:36

What a comment from the author! I am not a Catholic, not a true Christian, but I am full of admiration for the music and the lyrics. Just as I admire this religious music, I admire, for example, Bach's passions, Gregorian sacred music and so on. Why do you have to be a true Christian before you can appreciate and understand this beautiful music from the greatest musical genius ever?

It's such a pity, that so many people can't listen to this unique music without spreading hate.

"Non-Catholics nevertheless insist they can fully appreciate, and do fully appreciate, this work. This extreme arrogance is part of the darkness enveloping their minds." How unchristian.

Beautiful work, it shows the incredible versatility of Mozart for religious vocal music.... From the deeply beautiful lyricism of the Laudate Dominum to the masterful counterpoint of Laudate Pueri... And I disagree with the description of this video claiming that it can't be enjoyed by non-catholic people... Any reasonably mature listener can appreciate the beauty of the music without any religious attachment, I sure do

Back to Raphaël Pichon and his interpretation of Mozart's (!) Vesperae: this drive, this energy, this impatience, this anger, this strorming the skies, this is Mozart. True revolution starts with him.

To write "This work is fully appreciable, and appreciated, only by actual Catholics." is the most appallingly arrogant and snobbish remark that I have yet encountered on You Tube.

Laudate Dominum (the 5th vesper) is the most beautiful 4 minutes of noise humans have ever produced.

Hello, this music is pretty awesome. I attend Lakewood Church in Houston TX, but I also love the ways things are done by other religions surrounding Christ. We can all learn something from each other.

The heavenly beauty of this music soars above petty, ignorant, slavish religious bigotry.

Laudate Dominum makes me weep everytime I hear it. Just those two words softly spoken invoke the spirit of the living Lord.

Le Laudate Dominum est d'une beauté sans pareille, à croire qu'il ne fait pas partie du reste.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. It's at least as good as his requieum, and at least on par with any other choral music he ever wrote.

My visit to the Salzburg Cathedral was the high point of my visit to Europe that year. (2004)
