They are playing a variant of a Japanese song called Agari-Yatai. It is a call back song and the Welsh drummers are supposed to respond by imitating the Taiko drummers.

Outstanding. Absolutely brilliant. Both groups display so much much skill, precision, and dedication. All of this, with a bit of humor thrown in. So happy to have come across this video.

I cried hearing this. It's almost of infinite beauty finding two different traditions sounding as one. It's completely different.

The sound of the Taiko drums are swelling waves, the sound of the drums are sparkling waves. They compliment each other.
太鼓の音は波のうねり、ドラムの音は波のきらめき、The perfect match ! Thank you.

This was wonderful. Too bad so few people have come across this.

Love the show case of different styles of war drums. The east went for a deep resonating sound that vibrates your chest where as the west went for a faster higher pitched sound that should have no problem being heard in the middle of a fight.
Would been neat if it was more of a dual rather then a simple call response show to better showcase each styles strengths.

Now this is the most ambitious crossover in history

It is wonderful to bask in culture. They have their own magnificence, unique to themselves. It is a blessing to be enjoyed and shared many times over. Drums exist to be played on. Bang away!

Does anybody know of more things like this where Japanese and Welsh musical instruments are used together in music? I would love to hear more stuff like this - drums, flutes, stringed instruments, the lot!!

Two completely different styles of drumming here. The military drumming of the Guards was designed to encourage troops on the battlefield and to transmit orders and signals under fire. Taiko drums by their very size are not a portable instrument and are designed for a more courtly performance. to say one is better than the other is to demonstrate pure ignorance. in this performance both styles strive to each compliment the other. It's about music people not trashtalk.

There's always one 'photographer' who has to get in the way.
