There are PLENTY of real stories from Ancient Rome enough to make hundreds of award winning movies they don’t have to ruin such a great historically fictional movie!!!

At the time that "Gladiator" was made, Russell Crowe (then 38) had become a very accomplished actor and more importantly, a very mentally and physically imposing actor. If we'd never seen "Gladiator" and it was cast today, no actor could make it better. Even Chris Hemsworth, now two years older at 40, could not have brought the status of a beloved General to the role. IMO, even if bulked, he could not carry the role as well.

If I know Hollowwood, Gladiator 2 will have Lucius becoming transgender, hanging up his "sword" and becoming a boy who became a eunuch, who was gay for a while, got booted from the Senate for lude acts with a page, then became a woman, was a slave for a bit, tossed off the Theodosian Wall by the Turks but survived and now has a limp and a lisp

The life of Marcus Cassius Scaevus, who was the best Centurion of Julius Caesar
Gaius Marius who held the office of consul for an unprecedented seven times and he build the foundation to the roman professional army.
They are so many famous stories form ancient Rome

As a historian I was disappointed in Scott's Napoleon. It was not at all epic and was really a love story between Napoleon and Josephine. And while this part of Napoleon's life is portrayed okay, I didn't intend to see a love story but that's what I got. The Emperor and conqueror of Europe was so much more than just a love story. It was not worth the $100 I spent to see it. If this poor performance is a precursor of what we can expect with this movie I will definitely not waste my money to see it in the theatres.

All you needed to say was Gladiator 2 will be directed by Ridley Scott. That is all I need to know that it will be good and worth seeing in the theater. But the true history of Gladiators is very different. In real Roman culture - Gladiators had a 90% chance of survival in the arena when they fought. Because if you killed a gladiator, then the victor would have to pay money for the loss of the gladiator. It was dangerous but not nearly as life or death as they make it out to be in the films. This obviously did not apply to death sentences for criminals/murderers where were meant to be executed 😂😂😂😂

The sequel should have been a story about the Circus Maximus racers. THAT’s what Lucius would have done. Not become a dirty gladiator. That was the Formula1 of its day and the racers were IMMENSE celebrities. The richest sportsman in all of history is still a Circus Maximus racer named Gaius Appuleius Diocles, whose wealth in today’s money would approximate 15B USD.
