What you described happened to me but people call it a spiritual awakening. I was atheist and had never heard of a sp. awakening. It happened because I was horribly depressed and something happened that almost drove me over the edge "suffering leads to enlightenment". There aren't words to describe the love, peace and connection to the universe I felt, and it felt like somebody turned on a light in my head and I understood everything. What God is, what we are... I was euphoric for 4 months, I loved everybody and information fell into my lap constantly. There's so much more, it happened 3 yrs ago and I still think about it every day but I don't have peak experiences.

Just after hearing the first two sentences, I was like "oh Enlightenment", and you spoke about it right after. I felt these moments of "pure happiness" or to me "pure freedom" during my therapy especially when I started consciously deciphering my behavior and making choices. Recently I feel it when I draw.

its a common myth that he saw it as "once you achieve this step, you can achieve the next" but what he truly wrote did not mention that and he actually believed it is all innate and everyone has it in them--not a "final stage" as we can move across them: instead of a pyramid, think "ladder." Another psychologist turned Maslows theories into a pyramid in 1960s, which is incorrect according to his theories
