Tyneside Geographical Society Lecture: Why geographers need to stand up for the planet by Zion Light
Показать описание
Zion Lights, Author and Activist
The global landscape of planet Earth is changing due to the climate and ecological emergency. How can we develop methods of adaptation and mitigation to protect countless species from extinction? Geographers have been studying climate change, and its causes and effects, for decades. This study is essential, but now is the most momentous time to become actively engaged, to shape what the future will look like. This planet, and all life on it, needs you to take a stand.
Biography:
Zion Lights has a long history of climate activism and in 2019 she was a co-ordinator in Extinction Rebellion (XR) UK’s Media & Messaging team, and founded its newspaper, The Hourglass. She appeared on BBC World News, The Andrew Neil Show, BBC Politics Live, Good Morning Britain, Ed Miliband’s podcast Reasons to be Cheerful, and many other TV and radio programs as an XR spokesperson.
Zion is the author of the evidence-based book The Ultimate Guide to Green Parenting, the nature poetry book Only a Moment, and the forthcoming Zero Waste Kids with Rob Greenfield. She has been called “Britain’s greenest mother” by The Daily Telegraph and “an eco-pragmatist, happily heavy on science” by The Guardian.
In the lecture introduction it is mentioned that Zion is Director of Environmental Progress UK to campaign for nuclear power, she left the organisation in 2020.
