Ryzen Threadripper 3960X Review

Threadripper CPUs… Do you even still need them? I mean, look. The Ryzen 9 5950x, which is a consumer CPU already has 16 cores and 32 threads and is plenty enough for most of you guys in gaming and workstation purposes.

But what if you need more juice? For things like 3D animation? Also, would a Threadripper make sense for content creation purposes in video editing software? Today, we'll be reviewing the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X with 24 cores and 48 threads to see if it's still worth getting in 2021.

Good video, thanks! I still use my 2950x and have it slightly overclocked. I was annoyed with the new TR motherboard requirement and prices of next gen Threadripper. When I upgrade it will be to a "consumer" version. I will use my old TR as a gaming host server or something when that happens.

any thoughts on system stability? if system would need to be up for long time, due to multiple users working in a website for e.g., would a TR be better? also ECC memory support would help ensure data does not get corrupted. Support for redundant psu would also help ensure uptime.

...add to this that AMD stated the new sTRX4 chipset for that Threadripper 3960x would get "long term support"...!
It's going to be very interesting to see what they mean by "long term support" - with Zen4 just round the corner.

For if they do kill this chipset off early, like x399, this will backfire!

5950x is the best middle ground for most consumers at productivity and gaming. 3960x for pros
5950x is my best bet but even that will be outdated soon with next gen ryzen coming out

hrmmm i need a processor and i can't get my hands on a ryzen 9 5950x sold out for I am a baby content creator and i need to be able to do good rendering, for animations, 3d modeling, and of course gaming and streaming what processor would you suggest for me?

It's all about lanes my friend. Trust consumer cpus are just fast and that's it. When it comes to resources they are a waste of time & money. We for HEDT because of lanes. This you already know. I own 6 5900x mining XMR and that's all they are good for. Gaming and CPU mining, other than that, no resources.
