Canon 7 Rangefinder Camera - not just a Leica alternative

preview_player
Показать описание
The Canon 7 rangefinder is a classic rangefinder made by anon in the 1960s. This camera was extremely popular and loved at the time. Canon eventually pivoted to focus on SLR cameras, with good reason. Nonetheless, the 7 remained as a beautiful iteration of rangefinder cameras. It isn't extremely popular nowadays but I feel that it deserves more hype than it gets.

I appreciate your honesty about being scared of street photography. So scary, but so exhilarating and rewarding at the same time

Having your phone on the corner of your desk by your arm gave me such anxiety.

Great video.

Get a half case for it, I have one on mine, it'll fix your strap problem as it has side lugs. That front mount I think was designed for the 50mm 0.95 as that lens is front heavy and it stops the camera pointing down when used!

The Canon 7 and P are seriously undervalued. Buy them before their prices go up.

I keep going back and forth on getting one of these or the P! Thanks for the closer look at this one.

I have a Leica m4. Your camera is a great camera as is the Leica. At the end of the day the photo is what really matters. Enjoy your Canon!!! Thanks for your video Sir.

1:55 str8 up! It’s my new to me Japanese Leica. 1967 Canon 7sZ & Canon (Noctilux) 50/1.2. Since my m8 used this same lens on his Leica MIiI, what’s the difference? The film can’t tell what light tight box it’s in.

Man the Canon P was my first rangefinder and the one that made me I fell in love with rangefinders in general. Had that same 35mm lens but ended up going with the Jupiter 3 50mm f2 Zeiss sonar copy. Made some of my favorite photos with that combo! The P has those same annoying lugs too. I never put a neck strap on it for that same reason!

Have a look at the original Contax T, designed by Porsche. A genuine rangefinder, super small solid build with an amazing lens . The later models were autofocus, but the original is really good. Immediately noticeable due to the folding down front

I have the 7 and love it too... and by the way (5:40) that is the rangefinder and not the light meter... the light meter is the textured glass arround it. great review bro 🤙🏽

I enjoyed the review! Just got my Canon 7 from Japan yesterday, very nice and it appears that the meter works well enough, will give a test run soon. I also have the Jupiter lenses which have a special look.

Wicked looking camera man. I thought I saw them all, but here we are with something I didn't know about haha. Looks wicked for sure and I agree it seems like a Leica. Looking forward to see what you come up with using this beauty.

Great video. I too would love a Leica but I am not ready to sell a limb for it. Also, your phone that close to the edge of the table is giving me crazy anxiety.

Hello Ribsy, thx for the periodic film & foto updates. Is it that the Jupiter 12 has a fit problem in the Canon P, but not with the Canon 7? Or is it some manufacturers or series that have a better fit than others with Canon rangefinders? Thanks, and cheers!

Get yourself a Voightlander shoe mounted meter, You will love it. I use it on my M4 and Canon P with 50mm.

Great choice of rangefinder, I love mine, I have the same lens your buddy lent to you. I like the old russian lenses (price) and they also give you some cool little quirks and background blur etc.

Cool video thank you. Always best to use OEM strap if you have it. Just because it will sit the way it is suppose to. Leica and Canon are different, but just depends on your priorities and purpose with the camera. Canon made and still make amazing cameras. I suppose it’s like an Honda NSX vs a Porsche 911.

The Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM is one of the best lenses out there for a quarter of the price of any Leica lenses. And it's super sharp and beautiful. Yes a little more expensive than the soviet lenses but compared to Leica prices it's a steel, at least until people notice them and prices go up. Considered the Japanese Summilux for a good reason.

Leica or not, still a beautiful camera. There's not many rangefinder cameras that are ugly hahaha. Personally, I'm just a sucker for vintage cameras, in damn near mint condition--just beautiful. And props to you for dabbling in Street and trying to get out of your comfort zone.
