Buy a plunger before this even happens. They're not expensive. Also make sure it's a toilet plunger, not a sink plunger. And buy a fire extinguisher while you're at it. Because if you don't have a plunger, you definitely don't have a fire extinguisher.

No plunger? Use clingwrap, cover the whole opening with a good 2 or 3 layers, make sure the edges are sealed and flush...as the cling wrap rises up, push down gently but firmly and it will create a suction to clear the clogged loo.

This was excellent advice. Granted I already had a plunger, it was not effectively unclogging the bowl. However, when the hot water with soap was introdued (Note that a very large container is necessary for this task), the bowl unclogged itself after two rounds of hot water being poured into the bowl.

Thank you, Sir. A call to the landlord was averted.
