Celtic God of wild places and wild animals with a background shrouded in mystery. This deity ruled over the wilderness and is revered by the ancient Celts as a symbol of power and renewal. He is by far one of the most enigmatic and intriguing figures in Celtic mythology and is iconic for the antlers that protrude from his head. #cernunnos #celticmythology #mythology

It translates in Cymraeg as Cern(horn) un(one) nôs (night)... Gaulish and Cymraeg were very similar, so I'm not surprised it's easily translatable today in our ancient tongue 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

As a Celtic pagan, and devotee of Cernunnos, I have to say this one of the best, simple, down to earth explanations of his role in the Celtic pantheon. The only bit I would add is that many believe him to be the guardian of the Otherworld, and as such is also associated with Death.

Blessed be.

I feel at home in the woods. I studied Latin in high school and there was a Latin story about the two brothers who were raised by a mother wolf. Cernunnos is slightly brought up in the story but only his name and those that studied Latin believes Latin mythology co-sides with Norse and Celtic mythology only because Norse and Celtic creatures are mentioned in Latin mythology although Roman mythology is different. I see Cernunnos in my meditation sessions in the woods on my hikes.
