Got inspired by all the beautiful stories written below and wanted to give it a shot myself. Hope it's good.


The princess lowers her head as she walks in between the roaring crowd, doing her best to block out their insults and jeers. "WENCH!" one cried out. "PRETENDER!" "WITCH!" "MURDERER!" others yell as they throw rotten produce at her.
One manages to hit her on the cheek, and she does her best not to cry out despite the pain. She braces for more impacts but the next thing she felt surprises her.
A gentle wiping sensation as an armored hand softly wipes the rotten tomato from her cheek with his cloak before the knight raises his shield and body to protect her left and the cloak he used to clean her cheek to protect her right.
"Why?" She manages to choke out. "Why are you doing this, despite what they say I have done?"
"Because you are my lady, " was the knights response. "And you do not deserve this."
"Are you not aware you will be banished as well?"
The knight continues to look forward, occasionally angling his shield to deflect an incoming projectile as he wraps the princess closer, partly to shield her better but mostly to reassure her. "I am well aware, my lady. And if that is the price for doing the right thing, then I will gladly pay it."
The princess could feel her cheeks burn, though, not from the tomato that hit her earlier. And for once since the death of her father, she allowed a tear to fall as her servant, nay, her only friend and protector lead her out of harms way.

her 'council' are to blame. their greed almost doomed the kingdom she rules over,

running at her,
raising your shield against the mobs rotten vegetables and stones,
like it was dictated by the gods that you were to be her shield,
her bastion of hope,
she looks up at you
her eyes watered from the shame she is enduring
yet she manages to force a smile,
a smile of gratitude,
like she was begging someone to save her,
and it appears,
she saw your smile through your visor,
making her even less distraught.
