Paul McCartney & Wings - Big Barn Bed (Live from 'The Bruce McMouse Show', 1973)

Towards the end of Wings 1972 European tour, Paul decided to film some of the concerts for a potential TV special. It seems that all the filming was done during the day at the venue of the actual concert that would take place that night and a "fake" audience was specially filmed for later inclusion to give the impression it was an actual live concert.

Now at some point, Paul decided to incorporate some animated footage of a family of mice who live under the stage. The storyboard called for some interaction between the band and the mice so further footage had to be filmed around June/July 1973 at Twickenham Studios in London. The 1973 live parts are very obvious as Paul has much longer hair compared to the 1972 footage even though they tried to use the same stage clothing, the different length of hair gives it away.

In the original Bruce McMouse film, the sound was replaced with studio audio. I changed it back to a live version on this edit, from the Newcastle 1973 concert.

Should have been a massive single. Only now people are finally realizing what great songs Paul was creating right after the split. Linda's harmony vocals were a solid part of Wings' sound.

This is absolute gold & what a killer live version of what is in my opinion one of Paul's best songs of the 1970s & easily could have been a Beatles classic.

Just like with The Quarrymen he was nurturing, developing his sound and making his band THE BEST since The Beatles and he did it again! Legend!

Great song, great wings lineup including Denny, Linda, and Henry, Paul was great looking here with that hairstyle playing his yellow Rick, this was their opening number on the James Paul McCartney TV special

I heard this track as a child ...(58 now) and wanted Mum and Dad to buy it ???
.
The track is beautiful
.
(then i heard "Rocket Man" and knew he was gonna be big)
.
The press "slated" Wings right through the 70's and the BBC never played his records !!!
.
He's a mam of strength !!!!
.
GREAT ARTIST INDEED

Linda was the best for Paul. She kept him humble.

The rehearsal of the band playing together for the first time was pretty rough, terrible harmonies & you must be kidding Paul, & here they are spot on.

I’m going to say something controversial… “Red Rose Speedway” is a superior album to “Band On The Run”. BOTR isn’t a bad album by any means but RES is just a good time and felt like Paul and the gang were just letting loose in the early 70’s before things got more dialed in.

Very confusing. So the audio was from Newcastle and the video was from Mcmouse show?

Henry McCullough looks exactly like Monster from the Muppets. Just playing a different instrument. 😄

What do you mean live? They're not singing what we're hearing. It's completely out of synch.

I always wanted that wings T-shirt when I was a teenager. Henry McCullough has prettier hair than Linda! I adore her but no fashion sense
