Thank you to Graeme M for his generous donation.

Unchain My Heart is the eleventh studio album by Joe Cocker, released in 1987. The first single from the album is "Unchain My Heart", the album being named after it. "Unchain My Heart" was written by Bobby Sharp and recorded first in 1961 by Ray Charles. Sharp, who was a drug addict at the time, sold the song to Teddy Powell for $50. Powell demanded half the songwriting credit. Sharp later successfully fought for the rights to his song. In 1987, he was also able to renew the copyright for his publishing company, B. Sharp Music. The song was a hit for Ray Charles when released as a single in late 1961.

The late Big Clarence Clements, better known as a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, is the man at the start of the video who tells the piano player to to "just play it". This is the only song Clements played on from the album. It was interesting to see in the notes that Australia's Renee Geyer sang backing vocals on one of the other songs on the album.

Cocker's version was also a hit, though could have done better. In saying that, Cocker's version is by far the most well known version of the song. It's chart positions are listed below :

Australia (Kent Music Report) 17
Belgium (Ultratop 50 Flanders) 40
Canada Adult Contemporary (RPM) 18
Europe (European Hot 100 Singles) 17
France (SNEP) 25
Greece (IFPI) 2
Netherlands (Dutch Top 40) 26
Netherlands (Single Top 100) 27
Switzerland (Schweizer Hitparade) 15
UK Singles (OCC) 46
US Album Rock Tracks (Billboard) 11
West Germany (Official German Charts) 33

Cocker's version has gone to to be used in various media campaigns to sell things, in fact in Australia the Howard government used Cocker's version to promote the television advertisements for the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2000.

The official channel has this song in 360p and I think it deserves better. Someone has done a cheap and nasty looking 1080 remaster, this looks a lot better. The video has custom audio on it, so I was unable to replace it so did my best to give it a bit more punch. As well as the 4K remaster using AI, I have also given it some slight adjustments in regards to colour, contrast, brightness etc etc. This is a video that is banned in most countries on Youtube (apart from the official channels 360p version). In other words, if you upload it, it will be instantly blocked.
