I don't know what libraries Minecraft uses, but I have a feeling that it already uses the gpu. What this story is likely taking about is using Java for computing data, not just graphics.
I am not an expert on this, but from what I understand, it has great application in areas where you could pipeline data. So stuff like large databases or mining bitcoins.

And when I said I hoped that java should die, I didn't mean instantly vaporize every java program. I meant Java to lose popularity significantly so it can be phased out and replaced by superior languages and frameworks.

Others besides Raspberry Pi already have "Cube" computers. Intel cubicles had these in 2007 when I worked at Intel. The circuit boards folded up into a small box. At least some you can just upgrade one of the circuit boards to make it faster or add wifi and bluetooth cards.
