Do Wasp Traps Really Catch Wasps?

I test "Rescue YellowJacket", the "Fatal Funnel", and other common traps and methods. Do these traps catch wasps? Do these get rid of the whole wasp colony?

Instead of trapping them go ahead and make up the final apple juice recipe and add pure boric acid at a concentration of one-two teaspoons per litre to your bait. The wasps will take it back to their nest to feed the larvae and tell the other wasps also where to find the bait and it will eventually kill off the nest in about 10 days

I bought a similar trap to the first one and left it out all summer. It didn’t totally stop the problem, it definitely allowed me to have beer by the pool again without getting interrupted too many times. But by the end of the summer the trap was about 3/4 full and densely packed.

You have to follow the feeding cycle of the wasp to be effective. Late summer/fall is going to work best for the bag trap because its a sugar bait. Start of the season they are looking for protein. As said below, you need to include some borax at the start of the season to kill off the nest before they take hold.

I remember the guy who used a
flame thrower. Got rid of every single yellow jacket. And also his
house! The spray cans are effective when you see them starting to build a nest. Only spray at night when they do not
see well. NEVER during the day.
Sometimes you really need a professional.

This is great to see, because i just ordered 10 of those "fatal funnels" off of Temu for about $3.

Also you can make an effective trap just cutting the top out of a 2 l bottle turning it over and sticking it back in they fly in then can't find the hole to fly out

It does not get rid of the colony for me. But when im out and do BBQ or drink a beer i usually get 4-5 wasps everytime. With the trap i get 0-1 wasp, most of the time it was 0 wasps. I killed around 200 the whole summer with the bottle wasp trap. The more wasps are dead, the less likelier there is one to disturb you.

Those were probably paper wasps and not yellow jackets. My trap is completely full in 2 days!

Optional Piece of Meat sounds like a Frank Zappa tune. Poor old wasps, they're just not liked by anyone...

Branching out, huh? How about coming to Los Angeles and getting rid of the fire ants in my side yard?

Flawed experiment. By doing the first two at the same time you split the amount was wasp who checked out each trap.

As far as the traps goes it's more about the bait than it is the trap. You should try the apple juice and sugar in the other traps and see if they work just as well

I guess a house with no cracks or spaces for them to get in to begin with is a plus. Pity to kill them as they do eat pest bugs and they do help with pollination of our food plants. They drive me nuts in summer when we want to eat or drink outside though. That's why I'm here looking. For garden eating purposes I found fake wasp nests which are supposedly a decoy (bought four) and foodie wasp traps which don't kill them, but allow you to free them after you're done eating-- hopefully in peace.

its the apple juice over the sugar water...
