The Messaging Wars: Apple vs Beeper + Texts | Who Will Win?

iMessage is not just another app, its the cornerstone of Apple’s ecosystem strategy and a big part of what keeps people buying iPhones. Apple obviously wants you to stay within their ecosystem, and as they admitted in these emails, allowing iMessage to work across platforms will make it much easier for people to switch and would hurt Apple’s business.

Last year I reviewed and compared two apps, Beeper and Texts, which are both trying to build this ultimate messaging app. They pretty much both do the same thing, which is aggregating all your messages and conversations across all the platforms you use into a single app. I’ve been using them every single day for well over a year now, it’s honestly a life changer, and guess what?

Apple absolutely hates them.

And as it goes, if Apple hates your business, your days are probably counted.

But this time seems to be different. Not only are they not dead, they actually joined forces, got a bunch of funding and are attacking Apple head-on.
