Just stumbled onto this, there's a similar recipe that was served at an old restaurant (Sadly, now entirely defunct due to issues after the original owners retired and sold it) which had whole pies of it. Their major differences seemed to be that they used a mix of buttermilk and heavy cream for the milk part (From an acquaintance who had worked there, it was 2 parts each) and let it cool much more...then before serving, they tended to broil it to get a nice browning on the top and you get a different texture with it being warm and wonderful.

50 years old and it's been 40 years since I've had it. I WILL be having it this weekend...thanks to this tutorial. It looks exactly as I remembered from my childhood. Thank you for sharing this, Kris. I'm really looking forward trying this!!!

My grandmother from York, PA made these in small shallow pie tins and always sprinkled some cinnamon on top. She might have added a little vanilla to the mix as well. Thanks for this! Brings back memories.

You just made my day!! My grandma was Pennsylvania Dutch and also made milk pie but I never had a clue how she made it. Exactly like you said, it was something she did with leftover crust and I loved it so much. I wish I had some of her recipes to share. I've searched but yours is the only recipe that I've ever found. Can't wait to make this. Thank you a million times over for posting this.

My Grandmother emailed me and said that she never remembered Anna Blouch pre-baking her pie shells. She is right; neither do I. After experimenting, I liked this way more, but I'll leave it up to you!

Is this to sweet or it all depends on how much you add in it and can u put a crust on the top has well I been looking for a pie that I try one time my sister used to work in a cafeteria and one day she broth a pie I remember I try it and it was not sweet at all like you keep eating it won’t get you tired lol I just remember that and it was like a water looking not that tick

My great grand mother used to call this "slop" pie. Flour, sugar, brown sugar, milk (obviously, lol), vanilla
