Coyote howling for the pack

Despite coyotes often being mistaken for wolves they sound extremely different...
They sound more similar to a jackal then a wolf.

I live near a couple of 'em, and they've killed tons of rabbits near my house. However, one Rabbit was smart enough to hide in my backyard, and that rabbit is too fast for my dogs, and a lot more nimble. Which is saying something, because we actually measured our dog going at almost 35 mph, and the other at almost 25.

I sometimes howl to the coyotes that live nearby… it’s so beautiful hearing them all sing back to me :) this is helpful for vocals!

I can now say from an emergency situation; that this video lesson on coyote sounds saved my life.
I just went on a long hike where I overestimated my stamina, my route back to my car and taking rest breaks, (along with hydration), held me out until dark. I knew I had to make noise, I repeated this sound with a loud operatic voice, (which I am trained in), when I heard the undeniable coyote yelping and howling, and the coyote left me alone.
Basic animal precautionary knowledge works!

It's so very unfortunate that people are willing to kill these majestic native species to protect invasive species like cats... I there was a way for these precious animals to coexist along side us because if an invasive species that has run rampant and is killing thousands of native small species then maybe these coyotes can stand a chance!
