Well, I put in for ambience, but the superheated air from the explosion rises quickly, sucking up the vaporized material and forming the stem of the mushroom cloud. This rising air all causes some reversed wind that blows, or rather sucks toward the cloud, which could also a realistic reason for the wind sound. :)
