How I painted our IKEA Havsta cabinets!

Painting IKEA cabinets: I get questions about this all the time, because painting melamine is tricky, and if you don't do it right, it'll scratch right off! So if you're about to tackle an IKEA hack and want to know how to paint IKEA furniture, you're in the right place. I've done it quite a few times, and haven't had any issues yet with my method!

If anyone is painting ikea

Sand with 150 grit then sand with 220, shellac prime, sand with 320, shellac prime for a second coat, sand 320, then top coat, sand with 320 and top coat again.

Use a real paint like Centurion 400 series, their 1108 primer will stick to ikea, but you can use shellac.

If you really wanted to paint these the proper way, you’d use a 2k paint, like Centurion 2800 series with 1107 primer, sprayed. Do it right, do it once.

Most definitely the quality of paint & the preparation give you the finish you desire.

Yes I would have started with the the same primer because it has a special additive to make it in stick better to surfaces.

Micro fiber roller is best. Try not to use brush if possible.

Does anyone know if ikea cabinets hold up? Is it worth the money?
