The couple times I've heard them up close I noticed they were a lot louder than I expected they'd be. It was amazing, Tweed Range about 5am in the cold silent mist, and all of a sudden the most incredible sounds I've ever heard :)

Glad you liked the video - it was one of those "don't breathe" moments!  I love going into the forest before dawn to watch them, and this past year have taken several keen birdwatchers in with me to share this rare experience (facebook page: Killarney Lyrebird Experience).  It is always a thrill to see and listen to them. The difference between the two lyrebird species is most probably only that the Superb is renowned for mimicking man-made noises while there is no scientific reports of the Albert mimicking such noises.  Syd Curtis published a very detailed paper on both Lyrebird songs in journal The Emu.  Tim Low's book "Where Song Began" is also really interesting to read as he describes how Australia "gave" songbirds to the world!

Brilliant, is it true these are slightly more "vocally adept" (if you could call it that) then the Superb Lyrebird?
