Woodturning - The Big Birch!

Watch me turn this massive piece of Birch! It took me over 12 months to make this piece due to a long drying period in the middle; what do you think?

The piece was sanded to 1000 grit and finished with 5 coats of Danish oil.

I couldn't do it without all of my wonderful tools, I have linked the most important ones below, check Axminster out if you're interested in using the best woodturning equipment:

My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

Harry, yet again you’ve demonstrated your ability to create a beautiful piece from a chunk of wood which others would just pass by as firewood or too difficult to imagine or attempt. I celebrate you with the other viewers here.

The result is, in my view your best piece yet. If I were a rich man, this would be the first piece of yours I would buy. I think it is exquisite.

What a great piece of Birch. It has some chatoyance and feathering and it even has some spalting. Great bowl.

I really like the greenery on the stump, I suppose if left intake it would die and fall off. Pity, the color looks good against the gold wood. What an amazing beautiful piece!

Did you weigh the piece before and after the drying process.? It would be interesting to know the difference.

Dude. Great piece. Wish you would reconsider your stance on the gloves, though. As someone who works around big lathes all day it makes me cringe inside everytime I see your hands go near the edge of the tool rest....it only takes a split second.
