The effect of the presence of the foundational soil, and the interaction between the soil and the structure, represent important aspects in the correct evaluation of the seismic capacity of a building. Different approaches can be followed, in order to take into account these aspects, which can be directly or indirectly included in a numerical model. This webinar is focused on the seismic site response analysis of a three-dimensional non-linear soil column subjected to a set of earthquake registrations applied at the base. The new workflow for this type of approach implemented in DIANA 10 includes the following steps:

Set-up of the soil column model
Assignment of tyings and definition of base dampers for far-field conditions
Calculation of damping coefficients (in horizontal and vertical directions)
Definition of loading conditions in terms of force time-histories
Input for non-linear material model for the soil layers
Run NLTH analysis on the soil column model
Analysis of the output in terms of acceleration at the surface level
Analysis of strain profiles along the height of the soil column
