As Jeremy Clarkson once said, "Saying something is hand made in England is another way of saying the door will fall off."

I love it that matt spent over $20k to make this like new, and couldn't replace the ONE MISSING VALVE STEM CAP before the video or auction pictures 🤣

Love a Turbo R. A few things you didn't mention, the burr walnut veneer is mirrored across the car, which is great attention to detail and just shows how much craft goes in to building them. Later model years got vents for the rear passengers, I can't remember exactly when but my '96 example has them. The carpets used in the cabin and the boot are all real wool, Wilton carpets. The "umbrella" clips aren't that at all, they allow you to flip down the panel at the rear of the boot to get to the spare mineral oil and amplifier for the entertainment system. Umbrella loops were an option, my car has them on the bottom of the boot lid, along with two of the original four Bentley umbrellas. Sadly the other two were missing when I got the car. There's no ski hatch, the gigantic fuel tank is between the rear passenger seats and the boot.

These are expensive to run, expensive to fill up, impossible to park (though probably less of a problem with your bigger American parking spaces) and are beaten in the performance stakes by so many modern cars. But there's just nothing like the experience of driving them, and I'll be holding on to mine for as long as I can!

Doug missed one of the biggest ‘quirks’ that the Turbo R had - the red B badge on the exterior; the lesser model Mulsanne & Mulsanne S had the black B badge.
About as close as you could get to a stately home on wheels in the late 80s.

The reason why the Bentley has 4 memory settings: one is for the driver, one for chauffeur, one is for the wife, and the other is for the mistress.😂😂

This the ultimate “this guy’s come to fire your dad” car. I saw one in red somewhat recently and they are just so gorgeous

That has to be the nicest Turbo R left.

No Doug. It's NOT crazy there are no cupholders.
Bringing a beverage into this car would be crazy!

It’s easy to forget that people stopped for drinks back then. Drinks weren’t on the go like they are now. No cup holders required.

I’ve got 45k on my 1993 Racing Green Turbo R and it still looks and drives like new. Maintenance has been very reasonable over the past 20 years, about $15k total. Cannot recommend these enough, but the old adage applies: You can’t pay too much for a good one or too little for a bad one.

When I was a college student I worked occasionally as a valet at a fancy restaurant in downtown Detroit. We had to guard the cars in the lot back then (late 1980s). We had a customer come with a Turbo R and we parked it on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant as we couldn’t trust having it out of sight. I think the owner stiffed us on the tip, but I still remember that car. 😂

The moment you touch these old RR/Bentley in person, you know it really is something special, some of the nicest car in the world indeed.

Вот раньше делали автомобили, просто всё с душой.
Сейчас хорошо, но уже всё про маркетинг....
Не перестану говорить, что у Дага великолепные всё просто....но....

I have always liked the Turbo R . Fast, luxurious, and nice 80s style. The wood and wool make this a special car. It may be over stated but they dont build them like this anymore.

The upper and lower temp control is awesome for someone like me. Even when it is cold outside I like cool air blowing on my feet whie having warm air on my body. Yeah it is odd but anyone who has nerve damge in their feet understand the reason for this.

Who needs a fuel rail when you can have 8 unique fuel lines twisting all over the engine?

The same day this video was released, Matt also released his own on this car. It is a must-watch for anyone considering bidding on this. Of course, ANYONE bidding on this car knows what it is knows how expensive it will be to maintain, but Matt rattles off everything he has done to it in his one-year ownership and a good reminder that it isn't cheap to operate. It's no 1991 Lexus LS400, but they're certainly not in the same league.
For the DIYer out there, I would encourage anyone to tackle some of these repairs that he paid "Charley" to do. Most sound simple enough. A window motor gear, a brake line leak, a coolant overflow reservoir bottle replacement, etc etc. Nothing insane like an engine-rebuild, or worse, an electrical gremlin somewhere. Nothing too challenging.
Id love to have this car and would cherish any opportunity I had to repair it on my own - I have become much more connected to my cars once I got tired of bringing them to someone else to work on.

I had a similar car in HS. It was a 1989 Ford Escort. Similar in the sense it didn't have cup holders, but we always made it work. I'd shove my coffee cup (Yes, I drank coffee in HS) between the seat and the center area where the e-brake was. I don't remember it ever being an issue and it's just what we did back then.

I am sure a ton of people mentioned this already but the Min Oil gauge is for the mineral oil which is used for all of the hydraulics. Also the most common failure point
