The other argument people have with the story is "it's sexist because the woman is expected to love the man for who he is, but the man only has to appreciate how the woman looks." There are several problems with that argument:
1) The Beast is not immediately captivated by Belle's looks the way the townsfolk are. He treats her a bit more gently than he would most intruders, but he seems to think of her as a burden more than a love interest at first.
2) Disney's interpretation of the Beast is different from most others. He's not designed to look deformed or ugly, he's designed to look wild and ferocious. Belle isn't repulsed by his appearance, she's terrified of his beastly temper.
3) Belle is a smart girl; she's observant, she reads a lot, she knows how to put two and two together. When she sees the portrait in the west wing with the claw marks, she can probably tell that he slashed his own picture apart in rage. This means she knows exactly what he really looks like.

anywho, my mom is convinced belle has stockholm syndrome. but the fact she ran away when he was all GET >:U, but then he saved her and she realized he was still sorta decent and tried to start off on a clean slate, probably should debunk that theory

Love this movie, and the syndrome/ Um...she RUN AWAY when he got angry. She ran imminently and returned only after he saved her life. He then started to be really nice with her. In the original tale maybe, in other adaptations maybe but here? I don't think so. Plus she later went to save her father, so she was able to leave Beast behind. and he let her go. He indeed let her go the second time for good he understood that her dad is very important to her. He gave her a choice even when it meant him staying Beast foever.

OK I gotta be honest in the beginning after you finished up that serious monologue, and were talking about how influential and amazing it was...only to show clips of Gaston being awesome while doing so, had me laughing.  *NO ONE WINS OSCAR NOMINATIONS LIKE GASTON!*

Beauty and the Beast is a personal favorite among my family-it's even my parents' lovestory!  Personally, it's my favorite 2-D Disney film and I'll always love it...although my only problem with the film is the human design of Beast.

One of the main things I love about this film (that makes it my favorite) is the excellent soundtrack. The film's score is AMAZING. I've listened to it so many times, I have it memorized in my head. Even the opening. :-)

No, YOU can keep your "Stockholm syndrome", we don't want it back. This city has enough problems as it is.

On the real topic tho, this is probably one of my Disney favs as well. My sister's too. The little mermaid and Alice in wonderland are some other big favourites. I also think Rescuers down under is waaaay better than the first movie. The boy isn't even half as annoying as the little girl. No offense to her but I just hate the sound of children who can't speak properly yet. I also love all the different animals. Then again, I like many many Disney movies and got about 30-33 of them on DVD/Blu Ray. The "classics" not those terrible sequels. I'd never be able to make a list.

I love this movie so much and people do assume it's about bestiality which it's not. The morale of the film is that you have look past surface and see the person for who they are on the inside.

I saw this movie when it was re-released in theaters. In 3D. And it. Was. Breath-taking.

I adore your list and your enthusiasm. I can tell you really love the medium. I'm sad to see this series so close to ending.

Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite movies of all time...not just Disney or animated in general. It's easily in my Top 3. I can't wait to see what you're #1 is!

Belle and Mulan are my favorite princesses. Even though they still end up with their princes like all the others, they're still strong and smart women on their own. Belle also feels the most human to me.

This movie actually traumatized me when I was a child. The seen where Beast scares Belle when she see the Enchanted Rose scarred me for life. but to be fair I was born in '92, a year after this movie was released.
