I love Casino Royale's gunbarrel sequence. It was an ingenious idea to make it the finishing shot (literally) of the opening scene. No other gunbarrel sequence has a story attached to it.

I'll admit, I was puzzled at first that the film didn't open with white dots leading into the gunbarrel. But then when I saw the gunbarrel at the end of the pre-titles leading into the opening titles, I soon realised it made more sense this way to symbolise Bond earning his 007 status.

There's actually a different gunbarrel in the trailer of Casino Royale, which use the design of Brosnan's gunbarrel.

Actually, if one looks at this carefully; James Bond would not have been able to get his shot off before the assassin fired.He (Bond) would have ended up more like how Jim Prideau ended up at the start of "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy"- shot and captured. Still an original scene though.
