The Travel Project: The Legend of the Haka

A haka will represent many things – to welcome guests, to challenge others, to tell a story, to pay respect or show love – but at its core it will always speak of three elements – a relationship to the land, remembering those who have gone before, and connection.

Why can't the world, our mother, bring us together like MAORI?! Much respect, love and devotion and with sincerity! We belong to it....Indeed.

I have goosebumps everytime I see haga dance. Respect.
If I can go there and have to choose to do one thing, one thing only. This is it.
I willingly choose to practice Haga.

The moment he talks about ihi 2:14, tears start rolling down my face. I feel their energy and I sense their roots.

Haka, will live forever. Aswell as well be loved forever. Appreciation to all those out there in which took the time to learn the haka. As always🖤

Almost everyday I feel this rush of energy where my eyes are widened and I feel like bearing my teeth and tongue. Perhaps I’m experiencing this “ehie” energy that was spoken of

The best Haka I have seen is the wedding version when the bride is Maori and the groom is Paheka. The send-off of a teacher by the pupils at Palmerston North Boys High School (the teacher might be called Mr Dawson) and Mr Kelly also at PNBHS when he returns the respect that he is receiving.

Been to New Zealand and it’s just awesome to visit .... learning about haka is amazing!!! Loved when they mentioned “don’t own the land, they are the guardian of the land” and o can see why ! 🇳🇿

I am so interested by the haka because it gives me unique emotions every time I watch one. I would love to learn how to do the haka but first I would like to know if anyone can do it or is it against the tradition ? Do you have to have New Zealander blood to do it ? I don’t want to go against the tradition :)
