I love how you always look at what's "trendy" and let us know of any health issues with it. It's better to be informed and safe than on trend.

I had no issues with mine. I had to quit doing them because they irritated my wallet. 😉

I am an ophthalmologist and I agree with everything you said. Thanks for making such an informative and well-researched PSA on this topic and explaining things in clear and understandable terms as always. Now I can just refer my patients to this video! 🤓

Funny story: Today, the staff at the eyelash salon was not welcoming, so I did not give them my business. Now after watching your video, the incident seems like a blessing in disguise! Thank you, rude shop-keeper!
Tbh I've always thought eyelash extensions looked kind of fake. But gave into social pressure. That was not very wise.

I’m an optometrist and I’ve been waiting for someone with a large platform to make this video! All of these points I try to get across to my patients with lash extensions, particularly those who already suffer from dry eyes (but of course goes nowhere). It may sound like it’s no big deal, just use some lubricating eye drops and you’ll be fine, right up until you live every day feeling like your eyes are on fire and blinking feels like spreading gravel across your eye balls. Stay informed and safe!

I love that Dr. Dray’s channel preaches self-love and acceptance without being, well, preachy about it. Just doing the cost/benefit analysis of all these cosmetic procedures is really empowering.

Also: lash extensions make you look nuts when they start falling off...

i've never had a problem and i love them. you have to keep them clean! people that avoid water...ya that's a problem. a good cleansing routine is very important just like with getting a tattoo or a piercing.

I had eyelash extensions for over 2 years consistently. After a few months I started to develop redness and irritation after having them applied. I liked them so much I kept getting them regardless. But after over a year I started to swell and the inflammation became so bad it looked like I was stung by a bee. I’ve done patch tests with glue that came out negative; I have no idea to this day what exactly I was allergic to (gel pads, lashes themselves, bonding), but I’m hella allergic to them now. It also took me almost five years to get their health back to pre-lash state. I’d never get them again. I’m much happier supporting my lashes naturally and opting for mascara.

I had eyelash extensions for five years and I had a done professionally by an artist not just someone who learned it from a book she is skillful in her tedious job. Making sure they stay clean is another thing. I had the suds up my hands real well and use that to wash my eyes. I couldn't let the shower beat down in them. I could swim in them believe it or not. When I no longer could afford it and they cost me for fill ins $75 each time . I let them just fall out naturally. I had a full healthy set of eyelashes underneaththat's how skilled she was at her job she knew exactly where to place them. I do not recommend this to anyone who cannot follow what I did to care for them they are too fragile to mess around with.

I am so glad I've never been tempted to get lash extensions. Without knowing the risk factors in detail, I knew it was a bad idea. Thanks for the free education!

I loved them but I got periorbital cellulitis the last time I had them. It was horrible. The doctors couldn't tell me if it was because of them or if maybe a sty caused it but said the lashes were the most likely cause. The tech was coughing and spluttering over me while doing them as well. My vision is worse in the eye that was infected, I was lucky that the other eye didn't get infected. The doctors advised me if I didn't come into hospital when I did I could've lost my vision. People don't realise the serious complications you can have from these aesthetic choices

Just a thought- maybe we need to stop looking to instagramers for our beauty goals. #crankygranny

I love this video as it is informative and it's nice being able to read other people's experience for additional awareness. I've been getting lash extensions for 5 years and have had zero problems (so far). If you do get lashes done for whatever reason it may be, find a technician who knows what they're doing as Dr. Dray mentioned. Every time I take a lash extension break, my natural lashes look exactly the same as it did the first time I ever saw my technician. I wear a natural/appropriate length, keep them clean, and never wear makeup around them. Also, just because someone wears lash extensions doesn't make them vain or more vain than the person who wears make up or got a breast augmentation. Let's appreciate the information Dr. Dray offers us and be nice to one another.

By the time I finish watching all your videos, I'm going to look like a newborn baby. You are knocking out my procedures one by one, and I'm not sad about it :) Thanks for another informative video.

I had lash extensions for just a little over a year, regularly getting them filled every 3-4 weeks. My husband passed away right as the pandemic started. So I just let them grow out. After about a month and a half, I was horrified to realize that ALL of my previously long natural lashes were now mere stubs. It has been about 9 months and they still aren't to my original length. Never again!

Staying natural, simple and staying healthy via exercising, clean food, using least products is the way to go. Thanking my dad for instilling this in us from the beginning....

I'm a makeup artist. I see a lot of eyelash extensions and I will never get them because of what I've seen.
Lots of flaky skin on the lash line, weeks worth of mascara and eyeliner stuck on the lashes, individual lashes flipping over and poking eyeballs, and damaged natural lashes. No thanks.
