you could have bought rolled oats - for porridge, for grinding into flour and mix with banana for pancakes or making flatbread. Also dried chickpeas and beans that you soak and cook - you get a lot for little money and you can make curries, hummus, even black bean brownies! Interesting to see how much food you can get for a tenner in Britain! Greetings from New Zealand.

You know how people say introverts re-watch the same movies/tv shows because they know how they end and it creates like a comfort zone to them? Well Taz....you are MY comfort creator! I keep re-watching your videos for the last 2 years (maybe even more?) and I just wanted to say thank you so much for that, and I hope you know how big of an impact you make for me and others that enjoy your content! You are truly a blessing for everyone around you.

Hey taz, I have noticed that pasta doesn’t refrigerate well, So I suggest only meal prepping the sauce and making the pasta fresh every time you want to have it, and then you can mix the pasta with the sauce . I think this technique will stop it from tasting like cardboard 😂

Thank you so much for reading my comment and making this video. You are so very good at the budgeting videos because you’re brave and willing to experiment with your own recipes. I think you were very successful and I was pleasantly surprised, especially with how good your wonky veg box was and how you used it. If I am remembering correctly you asked for inexpensive pleasures, for me it’s borrowing dogs while their owners have to work, I have a beautiful French bulldog asleep on my knee and it’s fantastic. I get him until 9pm then he goes home and I don’t have the expense of having to pay vet’s fees or food costs. Thanks again for the video

I missed the chaos only your channel brings 😂💜 I’m terrible with budgeting but I love seeing this experiment with the current inflation in the UK economy

I think it’s important also to remember that people living in genuine poverty often don’t necessarily have access to cheaper supermarkets (don’t drive, no money for transport), have other obstacles such as not having proper cooking equipment, not able to afford the electric/gas to cook, so many things make it a lot more complicated than just buying the £10 worth of food

This is amazing!! BUT the real challenge is not getting tired of the middle class and poorer side of life. Where you gota live like this every week. And soon after the budget video we cant go back to buying and eating whatever we want. So the real challenge would be to be on a budget for a month and not get tired of the same kind of breakfast or lunch. That would be very interesting!

I would have used the fruit to make cereal more exciting 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, even with the exchange rate, I am still amazed by the UK’s food prices! Even going to Aldi, our cheapest store, it would be more, and our prices have risen about .25 per item. That wonky veg box is a great idea we don’t do here. For my budgets, I usually choose one flavor profile for most of the week. For example, this week has beef and lentil tacos and a chicken tortilla soup. A lot of the more expensive items are used more as garnish and can be used across multiple recipes.

I think the 'wonky veg box' is such a big help in these challenges, I hope they become more common in other places too, I'd love to have them where I live!

I'll repeat what I said when you did this video years ago - I am *so effing jealous* of your wonky veg boxes. That's so much vegetables for so little omg, and they're not even bad! Wish we had something like this here.

This is great, Taz! One thing to consider if you try this again is that some people don't drive and can't afford public transport, so they're stuck with having to buy food from the type of shops near them - typically a corner shop or a Metro Tesco. It would be really interesting to see how much less you get for your budget in that type of scenario. (Lidl and Aldi are usually a little out of the way for walking - especially if you have a toddler or a baby to take with you!)

As a Southeast Asian, having onion, garlic and ginger is invaluable. We put them in almost every dish. That wonky box is so perfect.

I am well and truly horrible at cooking, but while watching your vid, I was trying to think of other things to make with your ingredients, and immediately soup sprang to mind. Also simple scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes (assuming you had butter), and so on. Honestly, I often raid Pinterest for recipes because it's easy to get inspired by stuff there, and I'm wondering if that would help you next time. Anyways, great vid!

What could improve this a bit more, was mix and matching combinations of food. Instead of making egg fried rice so much, why not egg drop soup with veggies in it? Scrambled eggs with tomato on toast for breakfast or even lunch. Pasta could get really boring as well, so I feel you with that one. I would have probably gotten a bag of flour instead to make roti, Trinidad dumplings, wraps etc. Overall, you did good. I have definitely noticed prices increasing. Its kind of worrysome since incomes aren't increasing at the same rate, so I'm having to think of creative things to do with food this month to make it last.

I really love that Taz makes these kinds of videos because these are conversations that need to be had. I also liked her promoting the wonky veg boxes and the home cooked meals.
That being said, when this is your every day struggle it will take a toll. Because this means never going out for a meal or even a drink and having to be extra creative with a very limited selection of food items. Also, will you have the right nutrition if this is what you eat over a long period of time?
Also, £10 a week may not sound like much, but if you're a family of 4 that's £40 a week. And if your children want sweets and snacks it will cost more.
Life is hard for those who have no money. Hopefully the salaries will catch up with the price of living.

It's so interesting to see how cheap Lidl is in the U.K. The same amount of stuff would easily cost double in here in Germany.

If you do another one of these, could be interesting to get a nutricionist to help make more balanced meals (perhaps with other types of beans, lentils, and other protein rich foods). And maybe doing a £10 vegan version too! 😊

to answer the table talk:

i would say nature. pressing flowers in books, looking at the clouds, listening to the wind blow the trees. it’s so peaceful and makes me so happy. it’s like all my stress fades away. baking as well. i grew up baking with family members and it has always been fun for me, regardless of if i’m good at it or not. <3
