One of our students asked this in our Overnight Qari course - she had heard someone mention that you shouldn't go up and down in pitch during a madd ... you should just keep it flat. I shared my thoughts on why I think that opinion doesn't make any sense at all. Do you agree or disagree with my take? Lemme know in the comments below.

Some people argue by logic. Yet others by _“reasonability”_ —“it is reasonable that (...).”
Not saying anybody is wrong. What's funny is that when two scholars disagree, only one has to be right.
Now if Allah decides that one of them is right, he has to admit the other one to wrongness.
It is like a lion, about to catch a gazelle. The lion says, “oh god, allow me another day of food.” While the gazelle, “oh god, please let me survive.” Now who will god listen to? If he listens to the gazelle it'll be at the detriment of the lion. But surprisingly enough, both cling to their opinions and no matter what want it to be true.

All great reciters might be doing their thing, and you might do like them and that is _reasonable._
But I suppose it is also reasonable, or perhaps even more reasonable to admit that the argument of multiple Alifs, might not be wrong at all.
In fact, by the recitation of Khalaf, you can tell me how you would recite Chapter 16 Verse 10, ﴾ هُوَٱلَّذِيٓ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗۖ ﴿.
In fact, there are only two ways possible, one long and the other short, with both a Tas-hīl at the end.

The funny thing is if you recited melodiously and there it was ﴾ مَآءُ ﴿ instead of ﴾ مَآءً ﴿ you wouldn't be able to distinguish. But you _need_ to make clear whenever a Hamza has a double Zabar at the end.

An easier way to think about it. Think about somebody reciting to you and you are writing his recital on a blank page.
Even if he lengthens like mad on the Alifs, you might get away with it because in the end, the Hamza is ultimately an invented letter, has never been in the original Mus-haf and you could conclusively add as many (or remove all) from the Quran if you wanted. But now if he were reciting the word ﴾ مؤمنون ﴿ and placed many Tas-hīls at the end, it is actual _letters_ that you'd have to place, since now each Hamza cannot exist without its و.

In the end its all a matter of consistency. ..or reasonability.
