While it was initially questionable for Woody to leave Sunnyside, the execution showed that it was probably for the best that he dodged a bullet at first, before choosing to take the bullet and go back to help his friends. Because, not only would he have also been one of Lotso's prisoners (thus making their escape harder), but he also would've never learned the truth behind Sunnyside or even Lotso's true nature.
Plus, this is regarding the previous scene where Bonnie was playing with Woody and her toys, but I also do not want to IMAGINE what the caterpillar room kids might have done to Woody.

You do feel sorry for the toys in this scene. At least Andy and Bonnie (as we just saw in the previous scene of her playing in her bedroom) treat their toys with respect. The same can ALSO be said for the butterfly room kids, because even though they are likely not in kindergarten yet, at least THEY seem old enough to treat toys with common decency. But the caterpillar room kids on the other hand don’t know any better yet and treat toys more like breakable objects, and they don’t seem to know that they are smashing sentient beings to pieces.

The Caterpillar Room Is A Mistake To Go In There Because Those Kids Are Too Young.

The way I see it, Andy's toys being tortured through the younger kids' rough play while Lotso and his gang being "at the top", and being treated with care by the older kids is a huge reminder of slavery, where you have some people go through hard labor while some others don't even lift a finger.

Good thing Lotso is gone!
