Wizard of OZ themed- prom back drop.
What you need-
If you are not good at free handing- a projector works great to trace your image. I was able to connect my laptop directly to the projector and blow up a line drawing of the ruby slippers, directly from Google. Or a line drawing on transparent paper can work too.
2 - 4 X 8 pieces of lauan board , or plywood.
A few thick black markers.
various size paint brushes.
a pound of fine red glitter, and a pound of larger shred red glitter.
sky blue, red, yellow, and black -latex paint.
orange plastic table covers, black wrapping paper.
and old cheap thin mirror- glass cutter-pliers-eye protection.
hot glue gun , and glue sticks.
Set up boards side by side and together.
Project image as large as desired . Trace outline and details with marker. apply paint to sky, and the yellow brick road.
Now comes the fun part. I do a one step process. Add a thick layer of red paint to the bows of the shoes first. Then cover with your fine glitter. then do the same on the heel- This will make a highlighted effect. work out from there with your red paint. Just don't work in to large of an area that the paint dries before you can apply the glitter. The rest of the shoe, you will be using the large grain glitter shred. Don't rust this part! allow to thoroughly dry before proceeding.
Paint the black details on your brick road. My perspective is way off here! LOL!
The glass/ mirror part is optional. I wanted to maximize the restrictiveness of the piece. So I went a little crazy. I used an old cheap hanging mirror. The ones in the white plastic frames? I broke off the frame and use a glass cutter to score the glass. the paper backing on the mirror made this a fairly safe process. Holding the glass in place and keeping it from breaking.
Glue shards with hot glue radiating from shoes.
The flowers I will cover in another video. They are hand made of plastic table covers, black paper, and wire. But getting creative with a rainbow and flying monkeys works too!
