U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack Visits Purdue

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack used the occasion of his Presidential Lecture Series keynote address at Purdue University to tour laboratories and meet with faculty and students. Dean of Purdue Agriculture Jay Akridge led Vilsack on a tour of two labs, where he was briefed on university research. These labs included a mass spectrometry facility in the Bindley Bioscience Center where work on biofuels is being conducted, and the Birck Nanotechnology Center, where new sensors are being developed and manufactured. Vilsack also was briefed on Purdue’s work in several research areas, including alternative energy, the Plant Sciences Initiative, Purdue Extension’s rural economic development program, and the Purdue Foundry.
